Skybound Entertainment

Skybound Entertainment is a creator-focused multiplatform entertainment company founded in 2010 by Robert Kirkman and David Alpert. It develops and expands creator-owned intellectual property across comics, television, film, animation, video games, tabletop games, narrative audio and consumer products, with an operating model centred on helping creators retain meaningful stakes in their work while adapting stories for multiple formats.

Its publishing business grew from an Image Comics imprint and includes properties such as The Walking Dead, Invincible, Outcast, Stillwater and the young-readers imprint Skybound Comet. In 2023, Skybound partnered with Hasbro on the Energon Universe, spanning TRANSFORMERS, G.I. JOE and Robert Kirkman’s Void Rivals.

Screen production and animation

Skybound produces live-action and animated entertainment. Its screen credits include AMC’s The Walking Dead universe, Outcast, Renfield and The Electric State. The company formally established its in-house animation studio, Skybound Animation, in 2021; led by Marge Dean, the studio co-produces Prime Video’s adult animated series Invincible with Amazon MGM Studios.

Games and interactive entertainment

Its gaming operations are organized under Skybound Game Studios, Inc. and the Skybound Games brand. The division publishes tabletop and video games, completed The Walking Dead: The Final Season after Telltale Games’ closure, and has released titles including Before Your Eyes. Internal development studio Quarter Up is producing the fighting game Invincible VS.

A global transmedia business

Skybound combines original-content creation, intellectual-property incubation, animation production, executive production, game publishing, retail and direct-to-consumer distribution, crowdfunding support and creator-brand development. Its international network includes production activity in Canada and Japan as well as majority holdings in European game publisher 5th Planet Games and Nordic producer Sagafilm. The company also works through television partnerships with Amazon MGM Studios and film collaborations with Universal Pictures.
