About Secret Door
Secret Door is a video game development studio within Dreamhaven, founded in 2020 as one of the company's two original internal development studios. Based in Irvine, California, it develops original games centered on social play, accessibility and tabletop-inspired interaction. Its work combines cooperative multiplayer design with turn-based tactics, bringing shared group experiences to digital platforms.
The studio's debut game, Sunderfolk, was announced in October 2024 and released on April 23, 2025, for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The couch co-op tactical RPG uses players' iOS and Android phones or tablets as personal controllers, hand cards and rulebooks. This approach connects a shared screen with individual devices, translating elements of tabletop group play into a video game format.
Sunderfolk reflects the studio's emphasis on accessible social gaming: mobile companion devices form part of the play experience alongside the main console or PC game. Its combination of cooperative decision-making and turn-based combat establishes the tabletop influence that also informs the studio's subsequent work.
Expanding its tactical games
Secret Door announced its second title, Shadowstone, on February 4, 2026. Set in the Sunderfolk universe, the game is a tactics roguelite for one to four players, emphasizing strategic hero positioning, combinations between heroes and replayable dungeon runs. Public playtests and demos took place during 2026, with Steam Early Access scheduled for late 2026 as of the October research date.
Together, these projects show a focus on tactical systems and shared play across distinct formats: a couch co-op RPG and a replayable dungeon-based roguelite. The studio's development capabilities span game design, software engineering, UI/UX, technical art, 2D and 3D art production, quality assurance and community management.
