About Reflector Entertainment
Reflector Entertainment is a Montreal-based video game development studio focused on full-cycle AA/AAA action-adventure production for console and PC. Founded in 2016, the studio was established to create interconnected narrative universes, initially describing these cross-platform worlds as “Storyworlds.” It became a wholly owned subsidiary of Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe in 2020.
The studio’s early work centered on the Unknown 9 universe, a transmedia property spanning games, audio drama, comics and novels. Its debut AAA game, Unknown 9: Awakening, launched globally in October 2024 for PC, PlayStation and Xbox platforms. Reflector served as lead developer on the title and also created and produced the Unknown 9: Out of Sight audio drama.
Development capabilities
Reflector’s production expertise includes:
- Action-adventure game development, gameplay design and systems design
- Environment art, level art and world-building
- 3D animation, technical animation, rigging and motion-capture integration
- Engine programming, technical art and Unreal Engine tooling
- Narrative architecture, scripting and localized game-content production
Following the release of Unknown 9: Awakening, the studio reorganized around a more focused single-project production model. Its active development team is building an unannounced stylized game based on a major Bandai Namco franchise, using Unreal Engine 5.
Narrative-world experience
Reflector’s original mandate brought together game development with broader narrative design. The Unknown 9 property was introduced publicly in 2018 and expanded through podcasts, graphic novels and fiction alongside its game development. That background continues to inform the studio’s strengths in character, gameplay and world-building for interactive entertainment.
As part of Bandai Namco’s North American content-development presence, Reflector combines a dedicated Montreal production team with the backing of an international games publisher. The studio remains active, with development hiring and core production work continuing across disciplines including level art, animation and engine programming.
