About Qvisten Animation
Qvisten Animation is an independent Norwegian full-service animation production studio founded in Oslo in 1994. Working across feature films, television, commercials, music videos and edutainment, the studio combines 3D character animation, 2D animation, stop-motion and visual effects with a broad in-house production pipeline.
The company has played a notable role in Norwegian family entertainment, adapting established literary and cultural properties for the screen. Its feature work includes films in the Flåklypa, Kaptein Sabeltann, Knerten, KuToppen and Knutsen & Ludvigsen franchises, alongside titles such as Helt super, Dyrene i Hakkebakkeskogen and Spermageddon.
Production capabilities
Qvisten provides production support from early development through final delivery, including:
- Visual development, script adaptation, concept art, character design, storyboarding and animatics
- 3D modelling, rigging, texturing, look development, grooming, cloth and hair simulation, lighting and character animation
- Stop-motion puppet fabrication and shooting, plus hand-drawn 2D animation
- VFX, rendering, compositing, colour grading, sound design and music scoring
Through its internal Qvisten XTND division, the studio also develops real-time CGI, interactive installations, AR/VR experiences, games, commercial mascot work and location-based entertainment. XTND's work includes the 4D motion-simulator attraction Reodor Felgens Hyperakselerator for Hunderfossen Eventyrpark, as well as visitor experiences for Dyreparken and the Oslo Ski Museum.
Screen and immersive work
The studio works with theatrical, broadcast, streaming, advertising, cultural and visitor-attraction formats. It also participates in international co-productions and Norwegian film-fund packaging, extending its production activity beyond its domestic feature-film slate.
Qvisten Animation formally incorporated as an AS in 1998, following its earlier formation as a creative partnership. It remains an active private studio and continues to create character-led entertainment and immersive media for family audiences.
