Prime Video

Prime Video is a global entertainment division of Amazon.com, Inc., operating as both a premier over-the-top (OTT) streaming platform and a full-scale film and television production studio. The division encompasses the consumer-facing streaming service, Prime Video, and its in-house production and distribution arm, Amazon MGM Studios.

Production and Streaming

Originally launched in 2006 as Amazon Unbox, the platform has evolved into a global service available in over 240 countries and territories. It provides a hybrid content model that includes:

• Subscription VOD: Premium original and licensed content for Prime members.
• Ad-Supported & FAST: A tiered viewing experience featuring limited advertisements and over 900 free ad-supported streaming television channels.
• Prime Video Channels: A centralized hub for managing third-party subscription add-ons.
• TVOD Storefront: A digital marketplace for renting or purchasing current theatrical releases.

Creative and Technical Infrastructure

Amazon MGM Studios, headquartered at The Culver Studios in California, manages the end-to-end development, financing, and production of Amazon Originals. The studio's capabilities extend to global content distribution, live sports broadcasting—including NFL and UEFA Champions League rights—and the development of proprietary interactive technologies like X-Ray and Dialogue Boost. In 2024, the studio expanded its physical production footprint by acquiring the historic Bray Film Studios in the United Kingdom, further supporting its commitment to high-budget, tentpole film and television production.
