About NaturalMotion
NaturalMotion is a London-based mobile game developer and live-service studio operating within Zynga, a Take-Two Interactive company. Founded in November 2001 as an Oxford University spin-out, the business began by commercialising research into biological motion and nervous-system simulation before expanding into proprietary game development.
Its early technology work produced Dynamic Motion Synthesis (DMS) and animation middleware including Endorphin, Euphoria and Morpheme. Euphoria’s real-time behavioural animation was licensed for major game productions, while NaturalMotion’s own game label shifted the company’s focus toward high-fidelity mobile experiences combining 3D graphics, physics and character animation.
Mobile games and live operations
NaturalMotion develops free-to-play mobile games and supports them through live operations, game telemetry, monetisation design and ongoing content development. Its work spans racing, action and sports-oriented experiences, with cross-platform development for iOS, Android and Nintendo Switch.
The studio is particularly associated with the CSR Racing franchise. In 2012 it partnered with Brighton developer BossAlien on the original CSR Racing, then acquired BossAlien later that year. Under Zynga ownership from 2014, NaturalMotion expanded CSR Racing 2 as a long-running live-service racing title.
Technical heritage
NaturalMotion’s animation research remains an important part of its history. Its middleware was used by publishers including Rockstar Games and LucasArts, and Clumsy Ninja became the first mobile application to demonstrate real-time Euphoria physics. The company discontinued commercial middleware operations in 2017 and consolidated its game-development focus.
Today, NaturalMotion’s primary production operation is in London, developing and supporting mobile titles while continuing work on live-service projects. Its capabilities combine full-cycle game design and engineering with procedural animation, technical art, analytics, production, quality assurance and product management.
