Mogo Studios

Mogo Studios is a Colombo-based animation and visual-effects production studio operating as a specialized subsidiary of Derana Macroentertainment (Pvt) Ltd. Formalized as a commercial studio in 2022, it develops original animated features, short films and episodic work rooted in Sri Lankan folklore and speculative-fiction ideas, while also providing commercial VFX, compositing and international studio-servicing work.

The studio’s creative approach is described as glocalization: adapting local stories, architecture and cultural material for theatrical, broadcast and streaming audiences. Its production capabilities span storyboarding and concept art, 3D character and environment creation, rigging, animation, motion-capture performance, data cleanup, visual effects and multi-pass compositing.

Real-time production pipeline

Mogo Studios builds feature-animation workflows around Unreal Engine 5, Autodesk Maya and Foundry Nuke. Its production facility includes a 24-camera Vicon optical motion-capture system and Faceware facial-performance tracking, supporting real-time CGI character pipelines and performance-driven animation.

Selected work

• The Secret of the Moonstone (2026), a 3D animated feature based on the Sri Lankan folktale of Maha Dena Muttha and produced in Unreal Engine.
• Biththare (2026), a theatrical project directed by Sasika Herath, with VFX and production credited to Derana Mogo Studios.
• Riley and the Wooden Sword (2023), a 3D animated short created by junior artists.
• Answer (2021), a science-fiction short and Unreal Engine VFX demonstration set in a futuristic Colombo.

Mogo Studios is also developing international animation co-productions with Singapore’s PowerKids Entertainment and India’s Climb Studios, alongside an animated children’s series. Its wider group ecosystem includes separately operated game-development and training arms, helping connect production with specialist talent development and interactive-media work.
