About Massive Entertainment
Massive Entertainment is a Malmö-headquartered AAA video game developer and technology studio operating within Ubisoft’s international network. Founded in 1997 by Martin Walfisz, it built an early reputation through real-time tactical and strategy games including Ground Control and World in Conflict before expanding into large-scale open-world action and online game development.
Publicly branded as Massive Entertainment – a Ubisoft Studio, the company develops full-cycle PC and console games while also providing co-development and technical support across Ubisoft productions. Its work spans game design, engineering, gameplay systems, online services, live operations, user research, UX testing, and community playtesting.
Games and technology
Massive is the developer behind Tom Clancy’s The Division and Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, and has led recent licensed open-world releases including Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Star Wars Outlaws. The studio is also leading development of Tom Clancy’s The Division 3 and unannounced AAA projects.
A central part of its role is the development and stewardship of Snowdrop®, Ubisoft’s proprietary game engine and tools platform. Its technical work includes advanced rendering, dynamic destruction, ray tracing, audio systems, and production tooling. Massive also maintains and develops Ubisoft’s PC digital ecosystem and client, Ubisoft Connect.
Ubisoft collaboration
The studio has contributed specialist work to Ubisoft releases such as Assassin’s Creed: Revelations and Far Cry 3, and supported Snowdrop-based development on South Park: The Fractured But Whole. Its portfolio combines original technical foundations with franchise development, post-launch expansions, and live-service operations.
Massive operates as an active Ubisoft subsidiary under the legal entity Ubisoft Entertainment Sweden AB. Its Swedish teams work across Malmö and Stockholm, bringing together game development, engineering, design, and platform expertise for global interactive-entertainment projects.
