MaFi Games

MaFi Games is an independent developer and self-publisher of PC simulation and strategy games. Its debut title, Captain of Industry, is a colony and industrial-management game built around production chains, logistics networks, resource extraction, terrain transformation and a player-developed space programme.

The studio began prototyping the project in Unity in 2015 while its two software-engineer founders were working in other roles. They moved to full-time game development in 2021, when the business was formally established. A Kickstarter campaign that year helped fund early development and build a player community; Captain of Industry entered Steam Early Access on 31 May 2022.

Simulation systems and player creativity

The team focuses on interconnected industrial systems, including:

• Factory and colony automation
• Logistics, conveyor and pipeline networks
• Voxel-based terrain modification and mining
• Complex production-chain management
• Unity and modern C# development

MaFi Games also maintains CoI Hub, an in-house repository for mods and blueprints that is integrated with the game. The studio supports community-created content alongside continued game updates and downloadable expansions, including Trains Expanded.

Operating as a distributed remote team, MaFi Games brings together engineers, designers and contract artists working internationally. The company publishes its work directly on Steam and develops tools that extend the game beyond its core simulation systems through player mods and shared blueprints.
