About Mac Guff

Mac Guff is an independent French visual-effects and 3D-animation studio working across feature films, television and streaming series, commercials, documentaries, music videos and immersive media. Registered as Mac Guff Ligne, the company combines creative and technical work for projects requiring photorealistic imagery, character animation and complex digital environments.

Its services span VFX supervision and a full effects pipeline from pre-visualization through final compositing. The studio also provides 3D character animation, modelling, rigging, texturing, lighting, look development, matchmoving, matte painting, digital doubles, crowd simulation and technical-pipeline development. Its current capabilities include creative AI research and generative-AI integration for visual-effects work.

Screen work

Mac Guff’s long-running credits include La Haine, Contact, Vidocq, Irréversible, Azur & Asmar: The Princes' Quest, Dragon Hunters, Un Prophète, A Monster in Paris, Dilili in Paris, SamSam, Around the World in 80 Days, Lupin, Le Monde de demain, Tapie, Tout va bien, Infested and The Animal Kingdom.

The studio also contributed to Despicable Me before a 2011 corporate change. Following that film’s success, Universal Pictures acquired Mac Guff’s dedicated feature-animation division, creating Illumination Mac Guff. That separately operated business was later rebranded as Illumination Studios Paris; Mac Guff Ligne continued independently with its visual-effects, episodic, commercial and independent-animation work.

Technical craft

Mac Guff develops work ranging from character and environment creation to advanced facial work, including AI-driven face manipulation and de-aging. Its production approach brings together artists, engineers and supervision teams for film, series and advertising projects with demanding visual requirements.

The company’s European production network includes its Paris operations and Mac Guff Belgium, supporting film, animation and series pipelines. With a reported workforce range of 51–200, Mac Guff remains active as an independent studio focused on visual effects and 3D animation.
