About Lightcatcher Media

Lightcatcher Media is a Vancouver-based boutique animation studio focused on stylized 3D character animation and digital-first children’s intellectual property. Its work spans visual development, character design, storyboarding, CG modelling and rigging, lighting, compositing, and technical-direction support for episodic production.

The studio develops and produces original preschool entertainment as well as offering full-lifecycle 3D animation services. Its pipeline combines Maya and Nuke-based episodic workflows with custom Python, PyQt, and PySide tool development, supporting creative continuity from early concept work through rendering and compositing. Lightcatcher also works across original-IP co-production, licensing, and brand expansion.

Original IP

Its flagship property, Little Margo Stories, is a dialogue-free CG preschool series about the gentle underground adventures of a curious young mole. The property launched on YouTube in January 2024 alongside the illustrated companion e-book Margo and the Mouse. Across its first ten short-form episodes, the series generated more than 120 million aggregate views and over 350,000 subscribers.

The project has expanded from a digital-first release into television and streaming. CBC and Radio-Canada greenlit a 50-episode, three-minute original series for summer 2027 delivery. Disney Jr. subsequently acquired rights to stream the initial YouTube episodes on Disney+ and Disney Jr. beginning in April 2026, alongside international broadcast and streaming rights for the upcoming episodes outside Canada.

Production approach

Lightcatcher operates with an agile, remote-first production model while coordinating creative leadership, business affairs, and technical pipeline work from Vancouver. The studio prioritizes British Columbia-based remote talent for production roles, aligning its distributed workflow with regional production incentives.

Its market focus includes children’s animation, broadcast television, streaming platforms, online video, and children’s digital publishing. Supported delivery capabilities include visual development and concept art, cinematic pre-visualization, character asset creation, shot lighting and compositing, and production-pipeline optimization.
