About Legendary Entertainment

Legendary Entertainment is an American media production and entertainment studio founded by Thomas Tull in 2000. Working across feature film, television, digital media and publishing, the company develops, finances and produces franchise-driven entertainment with an emphasis on science fiction, fantasy, action, adventure and horror storytelling.

Its creative businesses include Legendary Pictures for feature films, Legendary Television and Digital Media for scripted and unscripted programming, Legendary Comics for graphic novels and original-IP incubation, and Legendary Digital Networks. The company combines development, financing, physical production and post-production oversight, including editorial workflows, visual-effects and sound integration.

Film, Television and Franchise Work

Legendary is known for building and extending major entertainment properties across formats. Its credits include the Monsterverse films and series, Dune, Dune: Part Two, Dune: Prophecy, Christopher Nolan collaborations including The Dark Knight trilogy and Inception, and films such as Pacific Rim, Man of Steel, Watchmen, Pokémon Detective Pikachu and A Minecraft Movie.

Its television work includes Lost in Space, Carnival Row, Paper Girls, Drops of God and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Through Legendary Comics, the company also develops and publishes graphic-novel material that can support broader intellectual-property strategies.

Production Model

Legendary established an early co-financing model that paired private-equity capital with Hollywood studio slates, including a landmark 40-picture agreement with Warner Bros. in 2005. Rather than operating its own distribution network, it works with major distributors and partners. The company has concluded a multi-year pact with Sony Pictures, continues collaborations with Warner Bros. on franchise releases, and entered a three-year worldwide theatrical distribution agreement with Paramount Pictures in 2025.

The active company is based in Burbank, California, where its principal hub supports executive leadership, development, business affairs, post-production management and an in-house visual-effects team overseeing feature-film and premium-television work.
