About Krillbite Studio
Krillbite Studio is an independent Norwegian video game developer based in Oslo. Its work spans psychological horror, experimental adventures, reflective narrative experiences and cooking simulation. Across these different genres, the studio develops games for PC and consoles, with capabilities in narrative design, atmospheric storytelling and multi-platform development using Unity.
The studio grew out of a group of students studying Experience Production and Interactive Media at Hedmark University College. Their graduation thesis project explored a psychological horror adventure from the first-person perspective of a two-year-old child. That concept became Among the Sleep, released for PC in May 2014 and subsequently adapted for consoles. Its child’s-eye viewpoint established a distinctive approach to horror within the studio’s early catalogue.
Before that release, Krillbite published The Plan in 2013, a short experimental game following a fly contemplating existence. The contrast between that compact project and the longer adventure of Among the Sleep reflects the range of formats represented in the studio’s work. An enhanced edition of Among the Sleep followed in 2017.
A varied game catalogue
Krillbite continued exploring narrative themes with Mosaic, released in 2019. The surreal, atmospheric adventure examines corporate monotony and alienation in modern society. In 2021, the studio released Sunlight, a short narrative hiking experience accompanied by a chorus of voices.
October 2024 brought Fruitbus, an open-world culinary exploration game set across the Gustum archipelago. Players customize and drive a food truck, extending the studio’s catalogue into cooking and simulation mechanics. Its approach differs from the psychological horror of Among the Sleep while retaining the studio’s interest in exploratory play.
Alongside its own games, Krillbite offers full-cycle video game development, interactive experience production and creative and development consulting. Its announced development slate includes Among the Sleep 2, which remains in development rather than being a released sequel.
