About InnoGames
InnoGames is a German developer and publisher of free-to-play strategy, simulation and online games for browser and mobile platforms. Originating in 2003 as the hobby project Die Stämme—internationally known as Tribal Wars—the business was formally incorporated as InnoGames GmbH in 2007.
The studio develops persistent game worlds designed for cross-platform play, enabling players to use the same accounts across web browsers, iOS and Android. Its portfolio spans historical strategy, city-building, fantasy and casual adventure games, with long-running titles supported through live operations, seasonal content, community management, player support and international publishing.
Games and capabilities
InnoGames is known for strategy and simulation titles including:
- Forge of Empires
- Tribal Wars and Tribal Wars 2
- Grepolis
- The West
- Elvenar
- Rise of Cultures
- Sunrise Village
- Heroes of History
- Cozy Coast
Its work combines full-cycle game development with multi-platform publishing, game analytics, live-service operations, marketing and in-house engine and tooling architecture. The company focuses particularly on free-to-play games, strategy MMOs, city-building simulations and persistent online communities.
Company development
After establishing itself in browser-based strategy games, InnoGames expanded its games for mobile devices while retaining browser access and persistent player accounts. Modern Times Group MTG AB began investing in the company in 2016, became the controlling shareholder in 2017 and held a 68% stake by December 2020. InnoGames operates within MTG's midcore-games organization, branded Playamp from August 2026.
The company remains active as an MTG operating subsidiary, serving players globally across video games, mobile entertainment, interactive digital media and online gaming.
