About Ghost Story Games
Ghost Story Games is an American video game development studio and internal publishing label based in the greater Boston area. Operating as a wholly owned subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., the studio was announced in February 2017 by Ken Levine and a core group of former Irrational Games developers following the earlier studio’s wind-down.
The team develops story-driven interactive experiences built around player agency, systemic gameplay, world-building, and environmental storytelling. Its work draws on the traditions of immersive simulations and narrative-focused first-person shooters, with an emphasis on responsive game worlds rather than fixed linear storytelling.
Narrative-led game development
Ghost Story Games’ approach centres on “Narrative LEGOs”: modular, algorithmic storytelling components and systemic AI intended to react dynamically to player choices. Its development capabilities include:
- Full-cycle interactive entertainment development
- Systems, mechanics, and runtime gameplay engineering
- Narrative design and scriptwriting
- 3D technical animation and cinematic pipeline development
- Unreal Engine 4 and Unreal Engine 5 pipeline engineering
Current project
The studio is developing Judas, its debut original title. The single-player, narrative-first-person shooter is set aboard the disintegrating starship Mayflower, where players navigate competing political factions and make consequential decisions about alliances and survival. Announced at The Game Awards in December 2022, Judas is planned for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Ghost Story Games carries forward experience from the creative team behind earlier Irrational Games work, while operating as a distinct studio focused on smaller-scale, agile development and emergent narrative gameplay.
