About Frima Studio

Frima Studio is an independent Canadian game-development studio founded in 2003. It develops multiplatform games and works with publishers and IP holders on co-development, full-cycle production and co-production partnerships. Its work spans console, PC, mobile, handheld, virtual-reality and extended-reality projects.

The studio’s current focus is high-end development for established franchises and original game concepts, supporting projects from early prototyping through launch and live operations. Its teams work across game design, engineering, art and animation, quality assurance, optimization and post-launch content.

Development capabilities

  • AAA and AA co-development: Embedded multidisciplinary teams, gameplay systems, Unreal Engine engineering and cross-platform adaptation.
  • Full-cycle production: Concepting, prototyping, game design, narrative integration, level design, production and LiveOps.
  • Technical delivery: C++, Unreal Engine and Unity development, network engineering, platform porting, performance profiling and certification support.
  • Art and animation: 2D and 3D modelling, texturing, character and creature animation, rigging, cinematic camera work and visual effects.
  • VR and XR: VR porting and bespoke feature engineering, including adaptation work for Meta Quest.

Frima is an Epic Games Silver Unreal Engine Service Partner. It also applies rapid prototyping, gameplay-feasibility testing and data-informed business intelligence to its development engagements.

Selected work

Frima’s credited projects include Fortnite, Triangle Strategy for Meta Quest, Temple Run: Legends, Disciples: Liberation, Forza Street, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, Resident Evil: Revelations 2, Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid and Talent Not Included.

The company previously created and published proprietary titles including Chariot, Nun Attack, FATED: The Silent Oath and the Zombie Tycoon series. In May 2024, it sold its legacy original-IP catalogue to Epic Storyworlds, positioning the studio to concentrate on full-cycle development, co-development and co-production with global publishing partners.

Company history

Frima began as a Flash-web and casual multiplayer-game maker. It expanded through the acquisitions of mobile developer Hummagade in 2008 and digital-art firm Virtuel Concept in 2011; both businesses were subsequently integrated into Frima's internal operations.

The studio opened its Montréal office in late 2015 and later consolidated its dual-hub Quebec model. Historical minority investors have included Fonds de solidarité FTQ and Média-Participations.
