About Fred Rogers Productions
Fred Rogers Productions is an independent American nonprofit organization creating educational children's television and digital media. Based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, it develops, produces and distributes programming primarily for PBS KIDS and international broadcast partners. Its work combines early childhood education, social-emotional learning and inclusive storytelling across animation, live action and puppetry.
Founded by Fred Rogers in 1971 as Family Communications, Inc., the company originally produced Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. It continued its educational work after Rogers' death in 2003, adopting the legal name The Fred Rogers Company in 2010. The public name Fred Rogers Productions followed in 2018, marking the original series' 50th anniversary and reflecting the organization's expanding work across media platforms.
Television and digital storytelling
The company's production portfolio includes Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, Peg + Cat, Odd Squad, Through the Woods, Donkey Hodie and Alma's Way. These productions use different visual and storytelling approaches while drawing on educational frameworks designed for young audiences. The organization works with external animation and production partners to bring its programs to television and other platforms.
Its catalog also includes the anniversary special Mister Rogers: It's You I Like and the 2025 digital-first caregiving initiative Many Ways to Show You Care. Together with its established television series, these projects extend the company's work beyond a single program or production format.
Learning beyond television
Alongside broadcast programming, Fred Rogers Productions develops interactive experiences, including online games, mobile applications and early learning curricula. Curriculum design and formative research support its educational media work, connecting entertainment with children's social-emotional development, curiosity and learning.
The organization also manages its brands and intellectual property through merchandising and licensing activities. Community engagement and educational outreach extend its work beyond screens, connecting its programming with families and early childhood learning settings.
