About Firesprite
Firesprite is a British video game developer established in 2012 and based in Liverpool. Operating as a first-party studio within PlayStation Studios, it develops AAA games and interactive experiences for PlayStation hardware as well as PC and console platforms.
The studio has a longstanding relationship with Sony Interactive Entertainment, beginning with work on launch experiences for new hardware. Its early projects included The Playroom for PlayStation 4 Camera, The Playroom VR for PlayStation VR, and the mobile title Run Sackboy! Run!. In 2018, Firesprite developed and published its original VR science-fiction stealth-horror game The Persistence, later expanded for consoles and PC as The Persistence Enhanced.
Development focus
Firesprite's work spans:
- AAA first-party game development
- Virtual, augmented, and mixed-reality experiences
- Cinematic, narrative-driven action-adventure games
- Survival-horror and roguelike design
- Unreal Engine 5 development
- Motion-capture integration, proprietary systems, and hardware showcase software
Its services include full-cycle development, co-development and external-development partnerships, VR and mixed-reality engineering and prototyping, cinematic pipeline production, and proprietary engine and systems work.
In September 2021, Sony Interactive Entertainment acquired Firesprite, adding the studio to PlayStation Studios. Later that month, Firesprite acquired Fabrik Games, bringing its Manchester team into Firesprite's production operations. Firesprite subsequently co-developed Horizon Call of the Mountain with Guerrilla Games as a launch title for PlayStation VR2.
The studio has also partnered with Cloud Imperium Games on Star Citizen: Theaters of War. Following a 2024 restructuring alongside Sony, Firesprite refocused on core AAA cinematic projects. Its announced work includes Until Dawn 2, a narrative survival-horror adventure for PlayStation 5.
