About Fintude
Finitude is an independent, remote-first European game developer creating deep historical strategy-RPGs with systems-driven sandbox play. Rooted in the modding scene, the studio was established by developers who had previously collaborated on Mount & Blade mods and prototypes before forming a dedicated company for ambitious historical games.
Its flagship project, Kinstrife, is a non-linear medieval strategy-RPG set in 13th-century Germany during the Great Interregnum. Players take the role of an itinerant knight in the Rhine riverlands, rising from squire to lord through duels, tournaments, sieges and political maneuvering. The game combines open-ended retinue management and strategic progression with a combat model designed around physical impact, balance and momentum.
Technology and design
Finitude uses Unity 6 and Unity's Data-Oriented Technology Stack to support large-scale, physics-driven encounters. Its technical approach includes the C# Job System, Burst Compiler, Unity ECS and custom animation jobs, enabling battles with dozens of physically modelled combatants.
Key areas of focus include:
- Historical strategy-RPG design
- Systems-driven sandbox and emergent gameplay
- Physics-simulated animation and combat mechanics
- Unity 6 integration and data-oriented development
The studio develops its own games rather than offering third-party work-for-hire services. Its lean, distributed team works asynchronously across Germany and the Netherlands while expanding production for Kinstrife.
In 2026, Kinstrife received a German federal video game grant of €1,976,995. Finitude also announced a publishing partnership with Hooded Horse for the game's worldwide PC release via Steam. The project remains in development, with the studio working toward a public playable demo and a long-term future for the series.

Leadership and working model
- Khaya Ludidi and Christoph Rüger are Finitude GmbH's joint managing directors. The pair originally connected through the modding community and previously worked on Mount & Blade mods.
- The company describes its production culture as “Minimum Viable Process”: a remote-first, asynchronous approach centred on trust, creative autonomy and sustainable pacing rather than rigid hierarchy or crunch.
Public support
Kinstrife received a €1,976,995 federal video game grant from Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action in early 2026.
