About Fenris Creations
Fenris Creations is an independent Icelandic video game developer and publisher focused on persistent online worlds, player-driven systems and long-running live services. Founded in Reykjavík in 1997, the company became widely known as CCP Games before returning to independent ownership and adopting the Fenris Creations name in May 2026.
Its best-known work is EVE Online, the science-fiction MMORPG launched in 2003. Built as a single-shard universe, the game is shaped by emergent player behaviour, large-scale politics and a player-driven economy. Fenris has supported the title through more than two decades of live operations while expanding the EVE universe into new genres, platforms and formats.
Games and technology
The studio develops and publishes games across PC, Mac, mobile, console and virtual reality. Its work includes:
- EVE Online, the persistent space MMO
- Dust 514, a PlayStation 3 MMOFPS
- VR titles Gunjack, Gunjack 2: End of Shift, EVE: Valkyrie and Sparc
- Mobile strategy title EVE Galaxy Conquest
- Co-developed mobile title EVE Echoes
- In-development projects EVE Frontier and EVE Vanguard
Fenris combines full-cycle game development—including design, engineering, art, animation, audio and quality assurance—with publishing, community engagement and event production. Its current development work includes the survival MMO EVE Frontier and EVE Vanguard, a tactical first-person extraction shooter built with Unreal Engine 5.
Persistent-world expertise
A central technical capability is the Carbon Engine, the company’s proprietary game-engine framework and tooling. Fenris opened Carbon to the public in July 2026. The studio also works with real-time graphics and lighting, virtual reality, and applied AI for complex dynamic simulation systems.
The company’s operating model centres on live-service development and communities around persistent virtual universes. Alongside game development, it supports player participation through initiatives such as EVE Fanfest and the Council of Stellar Management. Fenris Creations remains active as a privately held company following a 2026 management buyout led by CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson.

Recognition and research collaboration
EVE Online has earned multiple Guinness World Records for the largest and costliest virtual battles in videogame history. In 2026, Google DeepMind entered an AI research partnership with Fenris Creations, using dedicated EVE Online sandbox environments to study long-horizon planning, memory and continuous learning; Google also acquired a minority equity stake.
