About Eyeline

Eyeline is a global visual-effects, virtual-production and applied-research studio owned by Netflix. It brings together the visual-effects heritage of Scanline VFX and the virtual-production and research work established as Eyeline Studios, which were formally unified under the Eyeline name in October 2025.

The studio creates photorealistic visual effects for feature films, episodic television and advertising, spanning 3D modelling, rigging, matchmove, animation, lighting, compositing and large-scale FX simulation. Its technical heritage includes sophisticated work in water, fire, smoke and destruction, alongside digital environments and character work.

Production, stages and research

Eyeline operates across three connected areas:

  • Production: high-end VFX for film and television.
  • Studios: virtual-production supervision, LED-volume operation, in-camera visual effects, volumetric capture and digital-double creation.
  • Labs: research and production integration for machine learning, computer vision, diffusion architectures and generative visual-effects workflows.

Its virtual-production capabilities include real-time rendering, advanced camera tracking, volumetric and 4D neural reconstruction, and image-based lighting. The studio’s custom 360-degree Light Dome system is designed to replicate physical lighting conditions for production use, while hybrid-cloud pipeline integration supports work across its international operations.

Eyeline’s credits include Stranger Things, Wednesday, Andor, The Eternaut, One Piece, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, The Suicide Squad, Free Guy, Don’t Look Up and Game of Thrones.

The business traces its origins to Scanline VFX, founded in Munich in 1989. Scanline launched Eyeline Studios in 2019 as a specialist virtual-production and R&D branch, and Netflix acquired Scanline in the first quarter of 2022. Following the 2025 unification, Eyeline has continued to expand its production and innovation infrastructure, including a VFX and virtual-production hub opened in Hyderabad in 2026.

More about Eyeline

Technical heritage and leadership

Eyeline’s predecessor, Scanline VFX, was founded in Munich by Thomas Zauner, Peter Claridge and Stefanie Stalf. The company was long stewarded by VFX supervisor Stephan Trojansky.

Its Flowline fluid-simulation engine received an Academy Scientific and Technical Award and helped establish the company’s reputation for digital water, fire and destruction work. Following Netflix’s acquisition, computer-imaging pioneer Dr. Paul Debevec joined as Chief Research Officer.

Recognition

Andor Season 2 received the Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Visual Effects; Eyeline’s reported work on the production included visual-effects delivery.
