About El Ranchito

El Ranchito is a Spanish visual-effects studio founded in Madrid in 2004. Working across feature films, high-end television and streaming series, and commercial advertising, the studio combines creative supervision and technical post-production for ambitious live-action and CGI work.

Its capabilities span on-set VFX supervision, virtual production, LiDAR scanning, drone photogrammetry and motion capture, alongside post-production planning and pipeline design. The studio delivers concept art and previs, 3D assets, creature and character work, crowd systems, matchmove, photogrammetric digital doubles, environment creation and extensions, compositing, and simulations for water, fire, smoke, explosions and destruction.

Visual effects work

El Ranchito is known for photorealistic environments, large-scale crowds, creature work, CFX, and complex digital simulations. Its pipeline combines industry-standard tools including Nuke, Maya, Houdini and Unreal Engine with proprietary tools and machine-learning workflows for demanding visual-effects work.

The studio's credited work includes Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, The Mandalorian, Shadow and Bone, Lost in Space, Locke & Key, See, Carnival Row, Five Days at Memorial, Halo, Society of the Snow, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, A Monster Calls, The Impossible, Agora, Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths, and The Vault.

Company context

El Ranchito operates from creative facilities in Madrid and Barcelona. It was acquired by The Fuse Group in 2022; that group rebranded as Pitch Black Company in January 2023. El Ranchito continues to operate under its own brand, leadership and operational structure while collaborating within the wider visual-effects group.

The studio has received recognition including Primetime Emmy Awards, Visual Effects Society Awards, Hollywood Professional Association Awards, Goya Awards, Gaudí Awards, a European Film Awards Excellence Award for Society of the Snow, and Spain's Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts.
