About Dr Hen Says

Dr Hen Says is a Singapore-origin animation and health edutainment studio creating animated medical dramas, short films and illustrated comics. Its work uses character-driven storytelling to make medical conditions, mental health and patient care more approachable, opening conversations about subjects that can be difficult to discuss.

The initiative began in 2016, when Singapore digital healthcare company Halza Pte. Ltd. launched Dr Hen as an emoji mascot within its mobile health management app. Illustrated social media comics followed in early 2018, exploring medical conditions, wellness and mental health. The animated web series debuted in 2021, extending the project into narrative shorts and a multi-season medical drama. This progression established a creative world spanning illustration, animation and digital health education.

A character-led medical universe

The stories take place in the fictional Hen World and Hen.World Medical Center. An ensemble of healthcare professionals experiences personal health challenges alongside the demands of hospital life. Dr Hen leads emergency medicine; plastic surgeon Dr Henber is a breast cancer survivor; dentist Dr Hendrew lives with HIV; and emergency-room nurse Henia navigates depression. Their experiences connect clinical subjects with relationships, everyday decisions and the emotional dimensions of care.

Across its productions, the studio addresses subjects including chronic illness, rare diseases, HIV stigma, breast cancer, depression, ADHD and newborn development. Its storytelling brings these themes into an ongoing fictional setting, allowing health education to develop through recurring characters and their individual histories.

Animation and visual health communication

The studio's production capabilities encompass 2D animation, storyboarding, concept art, character design and comic illustration. Its output ranges from episodic web entertainment and short films to educational infographics and health-awareness comics. It also collaborates with advocacy organizations and health foundations on public education campaigns, using its characters to explore stigma and patient experiences.

Dr Hen Says operates under Dr Hen Says LLC, with its production origins and parent-company stewardship rooted in Halza Pte. Ltd.
