About Digital Domain

Digital Domain is a visual effects and digital-experience studio founded in 1993 by James Cameron, Stan Winston and Scott Ross. Its work spans feature-film and episodic VFX, animation, visualization, virtual production, performance capture and digital-human technology.

The studio's early work helped establish its reputation for photorealistic imagery, including visual effects for Titanic and the digital facial-aging work of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Both films received the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. Its credited projects also include Apollo 13, Ready Player One, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Stranger Things Season 4, Deadpool & Wolverine, Venom: The Last Dance, The Electric State, IT: Welcome to Derry and The Conjuring: Last Rites.

Creative and technical work

Digital Domain provides end-to-end visual-effects services for features and episodic productions, encompassing 3D character animation, environment extensions, compositing, asset building, matchmove, grooming and simulation. Its visualization work includes storyboarding, pitch visualization, previs, virtual scouting, technical cinematography visualization and postvis.

Digital humans and immersive technology

Alongside its VFX pipeline, the company develops AI-driven virtual-human and avatar technologies. Its named tools and platforms include Masquerade, Charlatan and Momentum Cloud, supporting facial tracking, digital-avatar creation, conversational agents and interactive virtual humans. The company expanded this focus with an AI and Virtual Human R&D Center at Hong Kong Science and Technology Park in July 2024.

Following the 2012 restructuring of Digital Domain Productions, the core VFX business was reconstituted as Digital Domain 3.0, Inc. Digital Domain now operates within the Digital Domain Holdings Limited group, combining visual-effects production with research into real-time, AI and immersive entertainment applications.
