Cosmos Maya

Cosmos Maya is an animation studio founded in 1996 by filmmakers Ketan Mehta and Deepa Sahi. Based across India and Singapore, it produces 2D and 3D animated entertainment for television and digital platforms, combining commissioned production with original intellectual property development, co-productions and content distribution. Its work focuses on children's entertainment, with additional activity in educational content, publishing and consumer products.

The studio's production capabilities span concept art, storyboarding and character design through modeling, texturing, rigging, lighting and rendering. It also provides pre-production, post-production and visual effects services. Alongside production, the business handles IP licensing, merchandising and distribution across digital platforms, connecting content creation with the commercial management of its properties.

Original animation and distribution

A significant turning point came in 2012 with the launch of Motu Patlu on Nickelodeon India, marking a shift from international service work toward original IP creation. Its animation catalogue includes ViR: The Robot Boy, Eena Meena Deeka, Selfie With Bajrangi, Titoo, Guddu and Bapu. Other reported productions include Chacha Bhatija, Gadget Guru Ganesha, Dabangg: The Animated Series, Chacha Chaudhary and Tik Tak Tail.

The company reports producing more than 40,000 minutes of original content, with a licensing catalogue exceeding 2,000 hours across more than 24 broadcast shows and over 50 made-for-television animated features. Its WowKidz digital network extends distribution to YouTube, complementing its television and streaming activity. This combination supports a business model encompassing production, ownership and ongoing circulation of animated content.

Company development

The studio's roots trace to Maya Entertainment Limited. Its current Indian corporate vehicle was incorporated as Maya Digital Studios Private Limited in January 2011 and subsequently renamed Cosmos Maya India Private Limited. A Singapore holding setup followed in 2013 to support international IP, co-productions and global sales. Emerald Media acquired a controlling interest in 2018; TPG NewQuest acquired controlling ownership in June 2021. The studio continues to operate as an active animation business.
