Cause and FX

Cause and FX is an independent New Zealand visual-effects and digital-animation studio founded in 2011 by Flame artists and VFX supervisors Greg Flannagan and Paul Dickson. The company grew from their shared experience on Spartacus at Digipost into a boutique, artist-driven vendor serving feature films, streaming and episodic television, commercials, and large-format immersive experiences.

Its work spans photorealistic visual effects, 2D and 3D compositing, set extension, CG environments, digital matte painting, creature and hard-surface animation, and complex simulation work for destruction, fire, smoke, water, and crowds. Cause and FX also provides on-set VFX supervision and technical data capture, alongside Cyber Scan & Solve services for full-body, head, prop, and environment scanning.

Real-time and immersive work

The studio combines established VFX workflows with Unreal Engine-based previz, postviz, rapid concepting, and virtual-production shot planning. Its immersive work includes 16K visual-effects sequences created for Sphere in Las Vegas, extending its practice beyond conventional screen production.

Across these projects, Cause and FX has contributed compositing, environment work, digital doubles, vehicle and destruction effects, and large-scale water and ocean sequences. The studio remains focused on combining technical VFX execution with collaborative production support for international screen and immersive-media clients.
