About Bulkhead
Bulkhead is a Derby-based video game developer focused on AAA and independent projects, particularly first-person shooters, tactical combined-arms multiplayer experiences, and narrative puzzle games. Formed in 2014 by six University of Derby game-development graduates, the studio formally incorporated in 2015 as Bulkhead Interactive Limited before adopting its current corporate name in 2022.
The studio first gained international attention with the first-person sci-fi puzzle adventure The Turing Test, released in 2016 with Square Enix Collective. Its subsequent releases include the competitive World War II shooter Battalion 1944, later continued as Battalion: Legacy, and the first-person speedrunner platformer/shooter Killrun.
Development focus
Bulkhead develops and supports games across PC and console platforms, including PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. Its capabilities span:
- Full-cycle game development and co-development support
- Multiplayer network architecture and systems engineering
- 3D art, concept art, animation and real-time visual effects
- Sound design and game-audio integration
- Unreal Engine 4 and 5 development, including Niagara systems and Blueprints
Its tooling includes the proprietary War Tech Framework, supporting the studio's tactical multiplayer work. In 2026, Bulkhead and publisher Team17 released the Early Access version of Wardogs, a 100-player tactical all-out-warfare multiplayer FPS for PC. The game surpassed two million sales in its first week.
Bulkhead also co-developed Transformers: Reactivate with Splash Damage; development on that project was suspended in 2025. Following its period under Splash Damage and Tencent ownership, Bulkhead moved into ownership by Super Media Group in December 2025.
