About Bohemia Interactive
Bohemia Interactive is an independent Czech video game developer and publisher established in May 1999. It is best known for building detailed, systems-driven games that combine large-scale sandbox design, tactical simulation, survival mechanics, and extensive support for community-created content.
The studio achieved early international recognition with Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis, released in 2001 and later re-released as Arma: Cold War Assault. It subsequently developed the Arma series, including Arma: Armed Assault, Arma 2, Arma 3, and Arma Reforger. The company also publishes DayZ, the multiplayer survival game that grew from a community mod for Arma 2.
Games and technology
Bohemia Interactive develops and publishes titles for PC, console, and mobile platforms. Its portfolio includes Vigor, Ylands, Take On Helicopters, Carrier Command: Gaea Mission, Take On Mars, and the Mini DayZ games.
The company has developed proprietary technology to support its simulation-focused games. Earlier projects used the Real Virtuality engine, while Enfusion Engine was introduced as a multi-platform technology foundation for newer projects. Arma Reforger serves as a playable platform for Enfusion technology and development workflows ahead of Arma 4.
Development and publishing
Alongside game development and publishing, the studio operates Bohemia Incubator, which supports external independent developers with funding, technical expertise, and publishing support. Projects associated with the programme include Silica and Everwind.
Its capabilities span tactical and military sandbox design, open-world multiplayer survival, proprietary game-engine development, motion capture, audio production, modding ecosystems, and creator-focused content programmes. Bohemia Interactive has also pursued educational and humanitarian-game initiatives, including the ENGU educational platform based on Ylands and Laws of War, developed in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross.
