About Black Kite Studios
Black Kite Studios is an independent, talent-led creative post-production studio specialising in visual effects, colour grading and creative finishing for advertising, music videos, fashion and long-form entertainment. Established in London and commercially active since early 2019, it was founded by a group of VFX and post-production leaders seeking a more nimble, talent-first alternative to legacy post-production models.
The studio delivers work from on-set supervision and look development through to final mastering and delivery. Its practice spans photoreal and stylised compositing, 3D CG animation, creature work, procedural FX, concept design, digital matte painting, motion design and art direction. Colour work is produced for commercial, music-video, episodic and feature projects, while finishing services include conform, quality control and cross-platform versioning.

Black Kite’s work combines established post-production disciplines with emerging and AI-integrated creative workflows. Its technical pipeline includes tools such as Autodesk Flame, Foundry Nuke, Autodesk Maya, SideFX Houdini and FilmLight Baselight, supporting projects from pre-production design through finishing.
Its credits include VFX work for The Rolling Stones’ “Angry”, campaigns for Burberry, Apple, Honda, McDonald’s, EDF, EasyJet and WWF, and colour work for Candy Crush Saga’s “Candy Country.” The studio has also contributed to Alzheimer’s Society’s “Dementia is Killing Me,” whose colour grading received a D&AD Graphite Pencil.
Black Kite works directly with agencies and directors on creatively demanding campaigns, music films and branded entertainment. Its client-facing production model brings together permanent London-based staff with a specialist international freelance roster across CG, compositing and concept disciplines.

Leadership and operating approach
Black Kite was founded by Graham Bird (Managing Director), Julie Evans (Executive Producer), Richard Fearon (Head of Colour) and Georgios Kyriacou (Colourist). In 2023, former The Mill ECD Alex Lovejoy joined as Creative Director. By mid-2026, Phil Oldham and Jonathan Box had also become Creative Directors, working under Executive Creative Director Adam Crocker.
Facility and workflow
The studio moved into its 12,000-square-foot purpose-built facility in 2022. Designed by Bureau de Change Architects and built by AW Spaces, it uses kiln-inspired architectural elements and dedicated dark-box rooms for colour grading, Flame finishing and compositing alongside open social spaces. Its production infrastructure also incorporates workflow automation tools including CETA and ShotGrid.
Recognition
Burberry’s “Festive” and “Open Spaces” commercials were honoured with a VES Award for Outstanding Compositing in a Commercial and a Cannes Lions Gold. Black Kite’s work on WWF films “In Hot Water” and “A Flammable Planet” received British Arrows recognition.
