About Bento Box Entertainment

Bento Box Entertainment is an American animation studio and production company specializing in primetime animated comedy and full-pipeline 2D digital animation. Its work spans broadcast television, streaming series, theatrical animation and shorter commercial formats. Founded in 2009 by Scott Greenberg, Joel Kuwahara and Mark McJimsey, the company developed its production business around animated storytelling for adult and family audiences.

The studio became closely associated with Bob's Burgers, providing animation for the television series and producing The Bob's Burgers Movie, released in 2022 with 20th Century Studios. Its television portfolio includes The Great North, Krapopolis, Grimsburg and Universal Basic Guys. Beyond FOX programming, its productions include Central Park and Wolfboy and the Everything Factory for Apple TV+, alongside Netflix titles such as Paradise PD, Hoops and Mulligan. Bento Box also serves as a co-animation studio on Hazbin Hotel.

Production capabilities

Bento Box supports projects from pre-production through animation and post-production management. Its pre-production work includes concept development, script breakdown, character and background design, storyboarding, animatics, timing and exposure sheets. Production capabilities cover digital 2D animation, checking, digital ink and paint, compositing and visual effects. Editorial and sound-design coordination support the delivery process.

Alongside series and features, the company produces animated commercials, music videos and branded content. Its broader services include co-production, talent incubation and content distribution across multiple platforms, connecting animation production with development and delivery for different audiences and commissioning partners.

Company development

Beginning in Burbank, the studio expanded its production capacity with an Atlanta branch in 2012 and moved its principal Los Angeles operations to North Hollywood in 2013. FOX Entertainment acquired Bento Box in August 2019, retaining it as an independently operated production house. The studio continues to produce animation for FOX while working with third-party networks and streaming services, maintaining a business that combines recurring television production with feature films and other animated projects.
