About Bad Wolf

Bad Wolf is a Cardiff-headquartered scripted television production company founded in 2015 by former BBC drama executives Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner. It develops and produces high-end drama for UK and international broadcasters and streamers, with a focus on literary adaptations, genre series and ambitious transatlantic productions.

Its slate includes The Night Of, His Dark Materials, A Discovery of Witches, I Hate Suzie, Industry, The Winter King, Red Eye and Dope Girls. Since 2021, the company has worked with showrunner Russell T Davies on the BBC and Disney Branded Television era of Doctor Who, including the wider Whoniverse and The War Between the Land and the Sea.

Production and development

Bad Wolf combines scripted development, executive producing and physical production. Its Cardiff base supports principal photography and post-production through the Wolf Studios Wales facility, while its London creative and development office hosts writers' rooms and production meetings. The company also maintains a Culver City presence for international development and financing.

The studio's work spans broadcaster, premium-cable and streaming partners including BBC, HBO, Disney+, Sky, ITV, AMC Networks, Apple TV+ and BritBox. Its productions range from contemporary financial drama and thriller series to fantasy adaptations and returning franchise television.

Welsh screen-industry focus

Created with support from the Welsh Government, Bad Wolf was established to help build a sustainable centre for ambitious drama production in Wales. Its Cardiff production base includes a seven-stage studio complex with edit suites, workshops and backlot areas.

Bad Wolf also co-founded the non-profit Screen Alliance Wales, which provides training, apprenticeships and shadow placements across production departments. The programme is intended to develop local crew skills and pathways into the screen industries.

Sony Pictures Television acquired a majority stake in Bad Wolf Ltd in December 2021. Bad Wolf remains an active production business, with its Welsh, London and US operations supporting development and delivery for global television markets.
