About ASPECT Studios

ASPECT Studios is an international landscape architecture and urban design practice founded in Melbourne in 1993 by Chris Razzell. Its work brings together the built and natural environments through landscape design, master planning, living architecture and environmental graphics. The independently owned Australian practice operates across Australia, Asia, the Middle East and the United Kingdom.

The studio designs public spaces and landscapes at scales ranging from individual precincts to urban frameworks and infrastructure corridors. Its work encompasses civic spaces, parks, waterfronts, transport infrastructure, mixed-use developments and residential landscapes, alongside education, health, cultural and hospitality environments. Across these settings, the practice emphasizes the relationship between ecological systems and the people who use a place.

An integrated design practice

ASPECT Studios combines landscape architecture with urban design, green infrastructure, integrated playspaces and public realm activation. Living architecture includes green roofs, living walls and other forms of urban greening. Environmental graphics, signage and wayfinding contribute to how people navigate and understand the places it designs.

Its services extend from strategic planning, masterplanning and concept design through detailed design, technical documentation and construction phase services. Digital design, BIM, 3D visualization and real-time rendering support this work as design tools within the broader landscape practice.

The practice describes its approach in terms of regenerative design, seeking to enhance ecological and human systems through enduring changes to the public realm. Water-sensitive urban design and biocultural thinking form part of its capabilities.

Work across public landscapes

Projects include Quay Quarter Lanes in Sydney, the Caulfield to Dandenong Level Crossing Removal and Linear Park in Melbourne, and the Alibaba Xixi Campus Waterfront in Hangzhou. Its portfolio also includes parklands, urban precincts and living infrastructure, reflecting a practice that works across both strategic planning and the detailed design of built landscapes.
