About ASI Studios

ASI Studios was established in 2015 as a Philippine animation studio specializing in traditional and digital 2D production. Based in Quezon City, Metro Manila, it developed original content and provided animation services for international productions. Its formation brought together the Philippine production infrastructure of Synergy88 and the intellectual property, financing and production management capabilities of Singapore’s August Media Holdings.

The studio’s work covered digital cut-out, paperless and hand-drawn animation, including long-format television series, preschool programming and anime-style episodic production. Its production offering extended from scriptwriting, series development and storyboarding through character, background and prop design, layouts, key animation, in-betweening and clean-up. Compositing, visual effects integration and quality assurance supported the finishing stages of its animation pipeline.

Television and international production

One of its early international projects was Tilda Appleseed, also known as Tilda Apfelkern, co-produced with WunderWerk and August Media Holdings for German children’s television. ASI Studios also supplied digital cut-out animation for the second season of the rebooted George of the Jungle series, contributing to programming distributed across international television markets.

Its flagship Philippine project was Barangay 143, a Filipino-Japanese basketball anime series co-produced with TV Asahi, Synergy88 and August Media Holdings. ASI Studios handled scriptwriting, scene layouts, storyboards and 2D animation, while TV Asahi oversaw directing and character design. The series began airing on GMA Network in October 2018 and subsequently reached audiences through Netflix and Pop TV.

Beyond these television productions, the studio participated in the animated short Zoua with Switch VFX & Animation and Artistes pour Rêver. Its work connected Philippine animation production with partners in Singapore, Japan and Germany, spanning both subcontracted services and collaborative content development.
