About Ares Studio

Ares Studios is a nonprofit film-production facility supporting independent science-fiction filmmakers, fan-film creators, and student media programmes. Founded by producer and entertainment attorney Alec Peters, it grew from the crowdfunding of Prelude to Axanar and maintains standing, Hollywood-style sets for practical production work.

The studio is best known for its 360-degree USS Ares bridge, alongside a transporter room, captain’s quarters, green-screen space, workshop facilities, and additional science-fiction sets. Its soundstage and equipment are available through rental arrangements designed to make professional-scale production resources more accessible to independent creators.

Studio access and education

Ares Studios combines facility operation with a public-benefit educational mission. It offers free access to its soundstage for local high-school video-production students and educators, with practical production experience on professional equipment. The organisation also supports filmmakers through sliding-scale rentals and community-oriented production logistics, including specialised prop and fulfilment work.

Production history

The studio’s origins are tied to Prelude to Axanar and the continuing Axanar fan-production universe. Work filmed on its sets includes Interlude: An Axanar Universe Fan Film and the recurring Starfleet Tactical livestream series. Its facilities have also hosted student productions including Nexum Mundi, Alien Territory, Interview Aboard the Space Station Danger-S, Jude's Dream, and The Shoffice.

Originally established in California, the operation shifted to Georgia after the closure of its first facility in 2017 and was subsequently organised as Ares Studios, Inc., a Georgia not-for-profit corporation. As of September 2026, the organisation is actively fundraising and planning the relocation of the USS Ares bridge set to San Jacinto, California, while continuing its mission of preserving the set and enabling community filmmaking.
