About ArenaNet
ArenaNet is a Bellevue, Washington-based game developer focused on massively multiplayer online role-playing games and the long-running Guild Wars franchise. Founded in March 2000 by former Blizzard Entertainment developers Mike O’Brien, Patrick Wyatt, and Jeff Strain, the company began as Triforge, Inc. before becoming ArenaNet. It was acquired by NC Corporation in 2002 and continues to operate as an active development subsidiary.
The studio’s work spans full-cycle game development and live-service operation, bringing together game, combat, level, narrative and economy design with client, server, graphics, network, tools and infrastructure engineering. Its art and animation capabilities include concept art, character and environment modelling, rigging and visual effects, supported by community management, player support and online-service moderation.
ArenaNet is known for Guild Wars: Prophecies and its follow-up campaigns Factions, Nightfall and Eye of the North. In 2012, it launched Guild Wars 2, building the series around cooperative dynamic events, action-oriented combat, horizontal progression and ongoing Living World content. The studio has continued to support the game through expansions including Heart of Thorns, Path of Fire, End of Dragons, Secrets of the Obscure, Janthir Wilds and Visions of Eternity.
Online-world development
Its technical and design focus includes proprietary client streaming and dynamic patching, distributed server orchestration and megaserver technology, real-time content deployment, and high-fantasy worldbuilding. ArenaNet also works with cloud architecture, DevOps, and Unreal Engine 5 for next-generation AAA development.
The company maintains a hybrid workplace framework centered on collaboration at its Bellevue studio while supporting ongoing live operations for Guild Wars 2 and development of new Guild Wars projects.
