Amplitude Studios

Amplitude Studios is a French video game developer and publisher founded in Paris in 2011 by former Ubisoft veterans Romain de Waubert de Genlis, Mathieu Girard and Max von Knorring. The independent studio focuses on strategy games, particularly 4X and turn-based experiences, with a catalogue rooted in science-fiction and fantasy world-building.

Its best-known work is the interconnected Endless Universe, which began with Endless Space and expanded through Dungeon of the Endless, Endless Legend and Endless Space 2. The studio later released the historical 4X game Humankind and the tactical roguelite Endless Dungeon. Its announced and continuing projects include Endless Legend 2 and Humankind II.

Strategy development and publishing

Amplitude develops games across design, programming, art, audio and quality assurance, while also handling publishing and live-operations activity. Its specialties include 4X strategy, turn-based historical grand strategy, tactical roguelite mechanics, RPG systems and the creation of large fictional settings.

A defining part of the studio's approach is Games2Gether, its proprietary community co-creation platform. Players can contribute feedback during development, vote on mechanics, propose factions and participate in early-access discussion, giving the community a direct role in shaping games in production.

Independent operation

Amplitude was acquired by SEGA in 2016, during which it released Endless Space 2, Humankind and Endless Dungeon. In November 2024, the studio completed a management buyout from SEGA Europe and returned to independent operation. It is now owned through AMPLITUDE HOLDINGS, led by co-founder and CEO Romain de Waubert de Genlis.

The studio creates and publishes games for PC and console platforms, including Steam, Windows, macOS, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. Its work combines long-form strategic play with community-informed development and a continuing focus on the Endless Universe.
