About Ambertail Games
Ambertail Games is an independent Belfast game developer founded in 2020 by Jordan Bradley and Noel Watters. The studio focused on original, wholesome and family-friendly social-simulation games, combining gentle humour, emotional warmth and inclusive worldbuilding.
Its debut property, Amber Isle, is a prehistoric shop-management and community-simulation game. Players run a shop in a settlement inhabited by Paleofolk—48 distinct prehistoric-animal residents—while managing retail, bartering, decoration and character customisation. The game draws on shopkeeping and village-life simulation traditions while presenting them through stylised 3D art, dialogue and a dinosaur-populated setting.
Development focus
The team’s production capabilities included:
- Shop-management and social-simulation systems
- Stylised 3D character and environmental art
- Narrative worldbuilding and dialogue writing
- Unity development and C# software architecture
Ambertail Games developed proprietary original intellectual property rather than offering external work-for-hire, outsourcing or co-development services. Its early prototype was created during the COVID-19 lockdowns by the founders using personal savings, before the studio expanded its multidisciplinary production team with support and advisory backing from Northern Ireland Screen.
Amber Isle
In April 2024, the studio announced a global publishing partnership with Team17 Digital for Amber Isle. The game launched for Windows PC via Steam on 10 October 2024, followed by a Nintendo Switch release on 13 February 2025. It was localised into seven languages with support from Locadile.
Ambertail Games Ltd entered Creditors’ Voluntary Liquidation in July 2025. Although the studio is non-operational, post-launch game maintenance and community updates have continued in collaboration with Team17 Digital, including the major Patch 1.10 released in March 2026.
