About Amazu Media
Amazu Media was a Danish independent game-development studio that translated comic-book storytelling into interactive entertainment. Founded in 2010 as the online project Amazu.tv, the studio developed narrative-driven games that combined graphic-novel aesthetics, player choice, and turn-based role-playing mechanics.
Its best-known release, Light Apprentice - The Comic Book RPG, adapted an original webcomic into a choice-led adventure for iOS and Android, followed by a PC and Mac release on Steam in 2017. The studio’s interactive-comic approach brought together branching story paths, illustrated visual storytelling, character animation, and tactical combat.
Capabilities
- Full-cycle independent game development
- Game design, programming, and Unity optimization
- Interactive comic and digital-comic adaptation
- 2D and 3D art, character rigging, animation, and compositing
- Narrative choice systems and branching storylines
- Turn-based RPG design
Amazu Media also worked on Shrug Song, an interactive promotional minigame, and early development for Shrug Worlds / Shrug Island. Its work sat at the intersection of games, digital publishing, comics, and cross-media entertainment.
The company was incorporated in Denmark as AMAZU MEDIA ApS in 2013. It operated as a small studio, working with a core team as well as collaborators and student interns. Following a decline in output after Light Apprentice, the legal entity entered bankruptcy proceedings and was formally dissolved in October 2021.
More about Amazu Media
Founding team and creative development
- Igor Borges Noronha founded Amazu Media after working as a comic colorist and digital artist, including work for DC Comics’ digital imprint. He established the studio to bring his narrative-comic work into interactive media.
- Peter Meldgaard, a CG artist from The Animation Workshop, joined in 2011 and worked with Noronha on adapting Light Apprentice into a mobile turn-based RPG.
- Award-winning animation filmmaker Alina Constantin joined in 2012, bringing Shrug Worlds into co-development. She later continued independent work on Shrug Island.
Development model
The studio used a proprietary interactive-comic format that combined choice-driven paths, graphic-novel presentation, and turn-based combat. Its small core team was supplemented by collaborators and student interns from The Animation Workshop. Early work on Shrug Song involved a collaboration with indie developer Nicklas Nygren, known as Nifflas.
