About Amazon Game Studios

Amazon Game Studios, also publicly branded as Amazon Games, is Amazon’s first-party video game development, publishing, and interactive-media division. Established in 2012, it began with mobile and web-browser titles before expanding into AAA PC and console development and publishing following the 2014 acquisition of Double Helix Games.

Its work spans internally developed games, third-party publishing partnerships, live-service operations, and cloud-gaming experiences. The organization combines development and publishing with global localization, marketing, quality assurance, account integration, server architecture, matchmaking, and community operations. Its specialties include AAA development, MMORPG and live-service infrastructure, multiplatform publishing, motion capture, audio engineering, and cloud-gaming content for Amazon Luna.

Games and publishing

Amazon Game Studios developed and published the MMORPG New World, launched in 2021, and its New World: Aeternum expansion. As a publisher and Western live-operations partner, it has supported Lost Ark with Smilegate RPG and Throne and Liberty with NCSOFT. Its publishing portfolio also includes King of Meat with Glowmade and future Tomb Raider projects developed with Crystal Dynamics.

The group has also produced first-party projects including Crucible, developed through the Relentless Studios imprint, and Amazon Luna titles and party-game experiences. This mix of internal production, external publishing, and platform-focused content places Amazon Game Studios across PC, console, and cloud-gaming markets.

Current direction

Amazon Game Studios remains active within Amazon.com, Inc. During a late-2025 and 2026 strategic realignment, the division shifted resources toward Amazon Luna experiences while continuing publishing agreements and operations across its core development and publishing hubs. The organization is overseen within Amazon’s Audio, Twitch, and Games leadership under Vice President Steve Boom.

Studio history and operating model

  • Relentless Studios was an internal Seattle development-studio imprint led by Louis Castle and established to create Crucible. After the game’s sunset in late 2020, its personnel were absorbed into Seattle central operations.
  • Amazon acquired Double Helix Games in February 2014; the Irvine operation was subsequently renamed Amazon Games Orange County.
  • The Bucharest studio opened in May 2024 to expand internal AAA development capabilities in Europe.

Leadership transition
