About Alter Ego
Alter Ego is a Toronto-founded post-production studio specialising in colour grading, visual effects, finishing and motion design for commercial, film and television work. Founded in 2007 by colourists Eric Whipp and Wade Odlum with partners Greg Edgar and Alex Eaton, the company began as Canada’s first commercial colour facility equipped for fully non-linear grading using FilmLight Baselight systems.
Its work spans advertising campaigns, feature films, streaming and television series, documentaries and music videos. The studio provides an integrated finishing pipeline that combines creative colour and online work with visual-effects, CG and motion-design capabilities.
Post-production capabilities
- Commercial and feature-film colour grading in HDR, SDR, P3 and Dolby Vision
- Digital intermediate and long-form television finishing
- Flame compositing, visual effects, CG integration, clean-up and rig removal
- On-set VFX supervision
- 2D and 3D motion graphics, titles, brand design and CG animation
- Digital workflow management, mastering and film scanning
Alter Ego’s infrastructure includes FilmLight Baselight, DaVinci Resolve and Autodesk Flame suites, Dolby Vision mastering setups, CG and motion-design workstations, and a dedicated client screening theatre. Its distributed workflow supports collaboration among colourists, Flame artists, CG supervisors, motion designers and producers across its Canadian and US studios.
The company has contributed colour and finishing work to films including Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Mad Max: Fury Road, Three Thousand Years of Longing, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, Happy Feet Two, Code 8 and Code 8: Part II. Its commercial portfolio includes work for organisations and brands such as RBC, Air Canada, CIBC, Canadian Tire, Volkswagen, Shopify, Adidas, KFC and the Royal Ontario Museum.
After building its Toronto operation, Alter Ego expanded to Santa Monica in 2023 and Vancouver in 2025, extending its finishing and colour services to West Coast commercial, film and television productions.
