About Alt.vfx
Alt.vfx is an independent, artist-owned visual-effects and post-production studio founded in Brisbane in 2011 by visual-effects supervisor Colin Renshaw and executive producer Takeshi Takada. The company has grown from commercial VFX into an international screen-production partner for feature films, television, streaming, advertising and immersive work.
Its work spans photorealistic CGI, creature and character animation, digital environments, compositing, visual-effects supervision, previs, look development and finishing. The studio also provides editorial, mastering, colour grading, 2D and 3D design, motion graphics and title sequences.
Screen and commercial work
Alt.vfx supports productions from on-set planning through final delivery, with particular experience in:
- Full-pipeline visual effects for features, episodic television and commercials
- Creature design, modelling, texturing, rigging and animation
- Virtual art department work and LED-volume virtual-production pipelines
- Technical previs, concept art and real-time environment creation
- Commercial finishing and post-production
Selected screen credits include Deadloch, Alice in Borderland, Yu Yu Hakusho, Foe, La Brea, The Pope's Exorcist, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, The Power of the Dog, True Spirit and Quantum Break. Its commercial and experiential portfolio includes work for Tourism Australia, Toyota, KIA, Allianz, Honda, Apple, TAC and Riot Games.
Technology and creative practice
The studio's production pipeline uses Houdini, Solaris, Karma, Maya and Nuke alongside real-time Unreal Engine workflows. This supports detailed character work, large-scale digital worlds and virtual-production projects, while its broader creative practice extends to design, interactive experiences and immersive installations.
Alt.vfx operates within the artist-owned Alt Group collective, alongside related specialist businesses in creative technology, motion design and virtual production. The company remains active as a visual-effects, animation, virtual-production and post-production provider.
