ALT Animation

An independent Northern Irish animation production studio, ALT Animation develops original intellectual property, delivers international co-productions and provides production services. Its work spans 2D animation, motion graphics and mixed-media content for preschool, children’s and family audiences.

The studio works across television series, animated features, short films, commercials, digital explainers and educational content. Its production offering includes development, pre-production, visual development, character design, storyboarding, animatics, animation, compositing, visual effects and final delivery. It also provides specialist services for third-party producers, including 2D rigging, background art, cleanup and compositing.

Screen production

The studio has delivered work for broadcasters including BBC, CBBC, RTÉjr and Channel 5’s Milkshake!. Selected credits include:

• Mimi's World, a mixed-media preschool series for Milkshake!.
• Sullivan Sails, a 2D adventure series co-produced with Distillery Films for RTÉjr and DeAgostini.
• Doodle Girl, a hand-drawn series co-produced with Studio Meala for RTÉjr.
• To Break A Circle, a hand-drawn animated short selected for the Galway Film Fleadh.
• Captain Onion's Buoyant Academy for Wayward Youth, a comedy-adventure project commissioned through the BBC Ignite animation initiative.

Development and partnerships

Alongside commissioned work, ALT Animation develops proprietary animated properties and packages international co-productions. Its feature project Lugi – The Brodgar Boy received Creative Europe single-project development funding in 2020. The studio has also worked on educational animation for BBC Bitesize and BBC Teach, as well as commercial and motion-design projects for brands and public bodies.

Its specialist focus includes hand-drawn and digital 2D animation, character-led storytelling, mixed-media production, visual development and children’s entertainment.
