About Alpha Dog Studios
Alpha Dog Games is an independent Canadian game development studio founded in 2012 by industry veterans Shawn Woods and Jeff Cameron. Working across mobile and cross-platform ecosystems, the team focuses on boutique 3D games with action-strategy, action-RPG, multiplayer and free-to-play live-operations experience.
The studio’s early work was built around bringing console-style 3D gameplay to mobile devices. Its first title, Wraithborne, was an Unreal Engine-powered action RPG for iOS and Android. Alpha Dog later released MonstroCity: Rampage, an action-strategy mobile game featured across Apple and Google storefronts, and partnered with Atari on a modernized mobile reimagining of Ninja Golf.

In October 2019, Bethesda Softworks acquired Alpha Dog to support its internal mobile-development pipeline. The studio subsequently operated as ZeniMax Halifax Ltd., doing business as Alpha Dog Games, and joined Microsoft Gaming when Microsoft acquired ZeniMax Media in 2021.
During that period, Alpha Dog developed Mighty DOOM, a top-down mobile run-and-gun shooter featuring the Mini Slayer. Released globally in March 2023, the game reached 7.4 million downloads and generated more than $7 million in revenue before its scheduled sunset in August 2024.
Microsoft closed the studio amid Bethesda restructuring in May 2024. Rather than disbanding permanently, Woods and Cameron negotiated to reacquire Alpha Dog’s assets and corporate identity. The founders restored independent ownership in May 2025, publicly confirming the studio’s return in July 2026. Alpha Dog Games is now evaluating publishing, IP and partner opportunities while continuing to build from Nova Scotia.
