About Allstory Pictures
Allstory Pictures is an independent, First Nations-owned screen production company and animation studio based in Brisbane (Meanjin), Queensland. Co-founded by filmmaker Dean Gibson and writer-producer Helen Morrison, it develops factual documentaries, scripted drama and comedy, short films and children's programming. The business publicly launched in 2025 following incorporation in October 2024, bringing together a creative partnership that began in 2008.
Its work combines First Nations cultural storytelling with subjects ranging from historical accountability and social justice to language, dance and early childhood entertainment. The company describes three guiding creative pillars: Truth, addressing First Nations history; Joy, celebrating culture for young audiences; and Empowerment, supporting underrepresented communities to tell their own stories.
Screen production and animation
Allstory works across development, production and post-production, with capabilities in producing, directing, screenwriting, visual design and 2D digital animation. Its productions bring together live-action performance, documentary storytelling and animated sequences for broadcast and digital audiences. Impact producing and marketing campaign strategy extend its work beyond the production itself.
The company's recent slate includes End Game with Tony Armstrong, a three-part investigative documentary series for ABC TV and ABC iview examining systemic solutions to racism in Australian sport. Allstory co-produced the series with Smashing Films and Barking Mad Productions, with Gibson directing.
Its children's series Dance with Tom combines live-action dance and 2D animation in the Yugambeh language region. Made for ABC Kids, the production comprises five short episodes and a half-hour special, with Thomas E.S. Kelly hosting, Gibson directing, Morrison producing and Faith Baisden contributing to the writing.
The founders' earlier collaboration provides historical context for the company's approach. Their shared work includes documentaries such as Incarceration Nation and Wik vs Queensland, alongside the animated ABC Kids bedtime productions Tjitji Lullaby and Marringa Lullaby. These projects predate Allstory's public launch and form part of its founders' creative background.
