About Alkemy X
Alkemy X is an independent, full-service creative media company spanning visual effects, live-action production, animation, design and post-production. Founded in Philadelphia in 1981 as Shooters, Inc., the business developed from cinematography, telecine transfer and commercial editing into a multidisciplinary studio serving entertainment, advertising, broadcast and independent filmmaking.
In November 2014, the company consolidated its legacy operations—including Shooters, DIVE, BIGSMACK and ShootersNYC—under the Alkemy X name. The unified structure brings creative strategy, production, editorial, VFX, finishing and original-content development together within one organization.
Creative and production capabilities
Alkemy X works across three connected areas:
- Entertainment and VFX: On-set supervision, concept work, compositing, CG modeling, digital environments, character work, particle effects and invisible fixes for episodic television and feature films.
- Commercial production and creative studio work: Live-action directing and production, motion graphics, broadcast branding, title design, digital campaigns and brand storytelling.
- Post-production and original content: Editorial, color grading, sound design, mixing, digital-intermediate finishing, independent-film post packages, and unscripted television development and production.
Its VFX and post-production credits include Wednesday, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Walking Dead, The Righteous Gemstones, The Leftovers, Wolfs, Asteroid City, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and The Whale. The company has also produced original unscripted programming including Dragnificent!, Food Feuds and Unique Rides.
For advertising and branded content, Alkemy X has worked on campaigns for organizations including Google, Apple, Coca-Cola, Samsung, LEGO, Ford, WhatsApp and Walt Disney World. Its commercial portfolio includes projects such as Google’s “Parisian Love,” Apple’s “Perspective,” OK Go’s “The Writing’s on the Wall,” LEGO’s “Play Unstoppable” and Meta’s “Are We There Yet” series.
The company’s international production footprint supports coordinated VFX and post-production work across North America and Europe, connecting creative, editorial and finishing disciplines for projects ranging from commercial campaigns to long-form entertainment.

Leadership and development
- Justin Wineburgh became President and Chief Executive Officer in February 2016 after serving as Alkemy X’s outside general counsel since 2005.
- In December 2022, Jay Halbert moved from CFO to Executive Vice President and General Manager, and Mark Quinn joined as Director of Finance.
- In July 2026, the company expanded its senior VFX leadership team under EVP Tom Kendall.
Origins
Alkemy X was founded by cinematographers Dave West and Craig Needleman, alongside sound mixer Jay Hartigan. Its early work encompassed cinematography, telecine transfer and commercial editing before the business expanded into dedicated creative and production disciplines.
Industry collaboration
In January 2024, Alkemy X’s Creative Studio added independent animation and cel-illustration studio Remade to its commercial representation roster for U.S. advertising.
