About Algorithm
Algorithm is a Dublin-based creative production and extended reality studio founded in 2015. Working across immersive media, animation, live visuals and spatial technology, it develops location-based experiences that connect digital content with physical environments.
The studio’s work spans hemispherical full-dome projection, architectural projection mapping, large-scale LED display content, interactive installations and scenography. Its team combines 3D animation, visual effects, compositing, colour grading, creative direction, technical direction and real-time software engineering to build work for cultural, entertainment, broadcast and commercial settings.
Immersive production
Algorithm creates content for non-traditional display formats, including planetarium domes and expansive floor-to-ceiling screens. Its production approach incorporates automated digital-content pipelines, real-time rendering and interactive systems, drawing on tools including Autodesk Maya, Redshift, Unreal Engine and Nuke.
A central example is Orbit, its patent-pending immersive display and real-time mapping system. Introduced in 2022 with support from Fís Éireann / Screen Ireland and Animation Ireland, Orbit is designed to adapt virtual worlds and complex CG content to bespoke physical geometries, supporting multi-location immersive entertainment and reducing post-production rendering demands.
Selected work
Algorithm’s credits include:
- Landfall, an immersive narrative experience inspired by Ireland’s 1839 “Night of the Big Wind.”
- The Outernet Immersive Christmas Experience and Let’s Dance for London’s large-format 16K display environment.
- Shine Your Light Solstice, a 2020 projection-mapping project for RTÉ and Creative Ireland.
- Living Canvas installations for Wilton Park and Tropical Fruit Warehouse.
- Sony’s Irish PlayStation 5 launch and the audiovisual installation for Ed Sheeran’s No.6 launch.
- A collaboration with Cartoon Saloon that adapted Silly Sundays into 360-degree interactive spatial environments.
Its work also extends to public-art and placemaking commissions, concert and festival visuals, brand activations and immersive storytelling. Algorithm’s combination of artistic direction, technical pipeline development and display engineering positions it across the intersection of creative production and experiential technology.
More about Algorithm
Leadership and origins
Algorithm was established as an interdisciplinary artistic collective by Nick Linders, Kevin Freeney, Cormac Murray, Daniel Staines, Lewis Byrne and Olan Clarke. The founders’ stated roles include managing director/CEO, creative direction, animation leadership and production.
Studio model and recognition
The business is organised across three connected areas: Studio for animation, visual design and 3D art direction; Live for real-time events, staging and large-scale projection mapping; and Lab for pipeline research and development, experimental coding and display engineering.
Before expanding its immersive-technology work, Algorithm built a track record in responsive stage design, bespoke lighting and live visual performance for more than 180 music festivals and concert venues, including Electric Picnic, Body&Soul and Metropolis.
Its 2019 Enchanted Lights installation at Kildare Village, featuring audience-controlled LEDs, light tunnels and architectural projection mapping, received an Adweek Experiential Award. The audiovisual installation for Ed Sheeran’s No.6 launch was nominated for the German Design Awards 2021.
