About Alchemy 24
Alchemy 24 is a Montreal-based boutique visual-effects and CGI post-production studio founded in 2007 by executive visual effects supervisor Jean-François “Jafaz” Ferland. Its work spans feature films, episodic television and advertising, with a focus on tailored visual-effects support from early planning through final delivery.
The studio provides end-to-end post-production services including script breakdowns and bidding, VFX design, concept art and previsualization, on-set supervision, 2D and 3D compositing, matte painting, digital environments, set extensions, character animation, CGI integration, and atmospheric or pyrotechnic effects simulation. Its specialist work also includes digital cosmetics, beauty retouching and de-aging.
A focused VFX practice
Conceived as an alternative to large-scale VFX assembly-line production, Alchemy 24 describes its approach through the idea of “pixel artisans”: a compact team delivering bespoke visual effects for projects of differing scales. The studio works across Quebec and Canadian cinema, high-end television, international sequences, and commercial productions.
Since May 2017, Alchemy 24 has operated as a specialized subsidiary of Rodeo FX. The acquisition broadened its access to shared technology and workflows while the studio retained its own brand, premises and operational identity. Marc A. Rousseau has continued in general-management and executive-producer leadership alongside founder Jean-François Ferland.
Selected screen work
Its credited work includes Arrival, Juste la fin du monde, Les Affamés, The Death and Life of John F. Donovan, La déesse des mouches à feu, One Summer, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Autumn and the Black Jaguar, 19-2, This Life, and Les Armes.
