About Albedo Informatics

Founded in Toronto in 2011, Albedo Informatics is an independent Canadian interactive digital media and game studio focused on blending physical environments with digital play. Its work spans geo-locative gaming, augmented and virtual reality, hybrid game systems, and interactive media designed to connect narrative experiences with real-world places.

The studio’s proprietary LARGE platform—short for Location-based Augmented Reality Gaming Engine—supports the deployment of geospatial digital content to mobile devices and wearables. Through LARGE, Albedo has created cultural and civic AR experiences including ARt @ LARGE, developed with the Canadian Film Centre Media Lab. The initiative has supported mobile AR experiences for the Toronto Biennial of Art, interactive installations for MUTEK Montréal, and community-focused mural explorations with Arts Etobicoke.

Original Worlds and Games

Albedo’s original entertainment work is connected through The Gloam, a shared multiverse spanning mobile, PC, console, and tabletop formats. Its flagship title, SIGIL, is a location-based GPS action RPG for iOS and Android in which players explore their surroundings, gather items, cast spells, investigate supernatural cults, and confront extra-dimensional creatures. The studio received Creative Export Canada support in 2023–24 to expand SIGIL’s international reach and live-service operations.

Current projects also include Once There Were Cats (OTWC), a narrative, trivia-based fantasy RPG for PC and consoles following Chips, a feline Enigmancer exploring the fading memories of a feline empire. MURMURS is an occult strategy board game drawing on 1980s Satanic Panic lore and planned for crowdfunding.
