About Akupara Games

Akupara Games is an independent video game publisher, developer, and technical porting studio founded in 2016 by game developer David Logan. Working with independent creators, it publishes games distinguished by authorial vision, atmospheric storytelling, and artistic character while positioning itself as an extension of development teams rather than solely a distribution partner.

Its publishing work spans financing, release strategy, platform distribution, storefront operations, localization, accessibility implementation, marketing, public relations, and community management. The company also maintains an in-house technical development capability supporting co-development, QA playtesting, technical advisory, and full-cycle work with Unity, Unreal Engine 4, and GameMaker Studio.

Development and Porting

Akupara provides end-to-end optimization and porting for PC, console, and mobile releases, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, iOS, and Android. Its team supports developers through production pipelines, funding guidance, pitch evaluation, promotional campaigns, press materials, creator relations, and live community activity.

The publisher’s catalog includes Rain World and Rain World: Downpour, The Darkside Detective series, GRIME, Cryptmaster, Astrea: Six-Sided Oracles, Mutazione, Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery, Sorry We're Closed, Universe For Sale, Zoeti, Spinch, and Desert Child. Its work on projects can include publishing, console publishing, porting, or co-development, depending on the title.

Akupara operates as a remote-first organization with professionals distributed globally. In 2026, it marked a decade of independent publishing with its inaugural Akupara Direct streaming showcase, featuring portfolio announcements, release dates, and developer AMAs. The company remains independently and privately held, without outside venture-capital backing or a parent company.

More about Akupara Games

Operating approach

Akupara describes its founding approach as an “indie for indies” model, built around creative empathy, transparency, and sustainable developer care. It was a founding co-organizer of The Indie Houses, an alliance of indie publishers intended to promote equitable developer terms and provide prototyping grants to underrepresented developers, including the African Game Developer Prototype Fund.

Team and culture

The company’s team page identifies David Logan, Alyssa Kollgaard, and Buddy Sola. Its distributed team gathers for an annual in-person Los Angeles retreat called Shellout!.
