About AKQA
AKQA is a global creative and innovation agency that designs digital products, brand experiences and technology-led services. Founded in London in 1994, the company operates as an autonomous subsidiary brand of WPP plc while maintaining its own leadership, client relationships and public identity.
Its work spans the intersection of design, communications and emerging technology, combining strategy with the delivery of connected products, platforms, campaigns and environments. AKQA’s capabilities include experience and product design, brand strategy and identity, creative technology, artificial-intelligence systems, web and mobile engineering, e-commerce, spatial design, industrial design and accessible audio experiences.

Its projects include Nike+ Kinect Training; Never Done Evolving, which used AI to stage Serena Williams against versions of herself; the Action Audio and HawkAR spatial-audio accessibility experiences for tennis audiences; and Pink Chip, a financial index tracking the performance of female-led corporations.

More about AKQA
History and recognition
- AKQA was founded by Ajaz Ahmed, whose initials form the company name. In 2001, with a $71 million Accenture-backed investment, it completed a four-way international merger with Citron Haligman Bedecarré in San Francisco, Magnet Interactive in Washington, D.C., and The AdInc in Singapore.
- WPP acquired an 80%+ majority stake in AKQA in June 2012 for an enterprise value of approximately US$540 million. WPP later created the AKQA Group umbrella with Grey in 2020; the agencies retained separate operating identities.
- Ahmed stepped down as CEO in October 2024 after 30 years, during a leadership transition across AKQA's global operations.
- The company reports more than 80 Agency of the Year titles and Cannes Lions Grand Prix recognition in Digital Craft, Design and Innovation.
